KARSH ALUMNI AND VISITORS CENTER

Duke University

Location: Durham, NC
Size: Forlines House Renovation 7,0000 sf
Events & Meetings Buildings 20,500 sf
         Office Building 14,500 sf
Year Completed: 2019

The new Alumni Center is a small campus of buildings surrounding a central courtyard.  The courtyard is bound on the west by the renovated historic Forlines House, on the north by a new Office Building, on the south by a new Meeting Pavilion and on the east by a new Events Building.  A covered walkway surrounds the courtyard and connects all the buildings.

The Events Building and Meeting Pavilion feature dramatic glue laminated wood arches with abundant natural light through full height glazed walls and clerestory windows.  The walkway canopy is framed with curved wood members to compliment the arches.  The office building is framed with load bearing cold formed steel.
